There are a lot talented singers that have no idea of how to promote their song, in this blog post you will the different steps you need to take to promote your songs.
1 DEVELOP AN ACTION PLAN:
With your actionable, measureable, timed goals in place, it’s now time to create a plan to achieve these goals. There are several components to include in your action plan, including: Advertising, Content creation / curation, Touring, Social Media / Community Management, Networking Etc. (whatever you need to achieve your goals)
Map out how you’re going to approach each of these on a monthly basis. But word to the wise, only map out a calendar one quarter at a time so you don’t spend time on a plan for 6 months from now when things can change very quickly. You should review your efforts against your goals, and make changes as necessary – stop or change how you’re doing things that are not moving the needle, and do more of the things you’re doing that are.
2 CREATE A YOUTUBE CHANNEL:
Shoot videos performing your songs and upload them on Youtube. Monetize, pick a category, allow mobile views and comments for feedback and don’t forget to tag, tag, and tag some more!
3 COLLABORATE WITH OTHER MUSICIANS:
Collaboration is an often overlooked aspect of music promotion. It’s a great way to get your music in front of a new group of people and grow your fanbase exponentially. You can collaborate on pretty much anything. Just make sure you collaborate with musicians whose fans would appreciate your music. Choose to work with bands in a similar genre or with similar fanbase demographics.
4 MAKE GOOD USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA:
These are the days of social media. Everyone has an account on popular social channels like Facebook and Twitter. Your music band should make efforts to build an audience on social media, which is a key to reach out to millions of your potential customers. Here is what you can do:
- Grow your fan following and followers and engagement on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and other channels.
- Post a premiering track on social media
- Make your music track viral on social channels, which fires the imagination of audience about the album before it hits a market.
- Make your social media exciting and engaging
- Post your band’s music and content and talk about your concerts very often on the social channels.
5 PROMOTE YOUR MUSIC AND SELL IT ON YOUR WEBSITE:
It’s very important that you should create your website if you can. Your website shouldn’t be a static thing. It should be ever adapting and changing to reflect new events in your career. Basically, you want your fans stopping by your website as often as possible.
The more often they’re on your site, the more they’re exposed to your albums, merch, and tickets. If you’re just starting out, you probably don’t have a lot of big updates other than the occasional album release and tour. Starting a blog is a great solution.
6 WRITE GREAT SONGS:
Anyone can write a song! All you really need is some basic knowledge of a melody instrument like a guitar or a piano, an idea, and the proper methodology. As long as you know how to brainstorm ideas for your song, how to write lyrics, and how to put a song together.
Sometimes, it’s tough to come up with good ideas for songs but don’t get discouraged! If you’re running into trouble, take some time to get your creative juices flowing. Open yourself to your emotions and look for inspiration in the world around you. Do writing exercises and play with melodies until you come up with lyrics and tunes that pique your interest. Keep exploring those ideas, and refine them until you’ve crafted a cohesive, catchy song.
7 PROMOTE YOUR MUSIC USING EMAIL LIST:
Through email, you can let fans know about upcoming shows, album release , deals on band merch, band interviews, music videos, and more. With email, your messages are much more likely to be seen. That’s why it’s vital to place a high importance on building your email list.
Once you’ve collected your fan’s email addresses, you control what to do with them, how you send messages to them, and so on. Whereas on social media platforms have control over their own networks and how they want to show your posts to fans
MailChimp is free to use as long as you have 2,000 or fewer email addresses and send out 12,000 or fewer emails a month. So theoretically, you could have 2,000 fans and you could send an email 6 times a month to your entire list before you would need to upgrade to a paid plan. At that point, once you have more than 2,000 fans signed up to your email list, you can decide to upgrade to a paid plan on MailChimp or look into another more affordable service.
Another reason I recommend MailChimp as an email marketing tool for musicians and bands is that it’s easy and simple it is to use. It’s the simplest platform that I’ve ever used and MailChimp’s drag-and-drop email builder is one of the best out there.
8 REACH OUT TO MUSIC BLOGS:
If you want to promote your music, it isn’t just about sharing things with your fans. You also want to reach out to new audiences and convert them to fans. And music blogs are a great way to do that. Bloggers are always looking for fresh, new content, and the cool thing is, there are a ton of smaller blogs that are totally within your reach as an indie artist. Blogs also tend to have a pretty niche following. This means that if your music is run on a blog, it’s guaranteed to be seen by people who already like the genre!
